Arterium Angledal, commonly known by his first name, is a self-taught artist based in Byron Bay, Australia.
Born in Sweden, he later moved at seven years old and grew up in Australia. In 2010, he began his professional art career as a photographer. First shooting weddings, then live music festivals, and then short films. He now operates his own studio and gallery in Bangalow. Furthermore, his work displayed in solo exhibitions throughout Australia.
Arterium gravitates towards themes and imagery that embody a magical quality, subjects that are mysterious and powerful. He chooses to work with nude art photography because of the simple and yet beautiful characteristics of nature reflected on the naked human body. Additionally, he focuses on portraying the female nude form respectfully by capturing its beauty, strength, and the magic instilled in it. Furthermore, his images capture the soul of his subjects, providing him with the appropriate nickname as the “Soul Photographer.”
His body of work takes inspiration directly from nature, from planet Earth. Those that advocate for ecological conservation, such as environmental activists, musicians, heals and practitioners of yoga also provide stimulation and inform his work. Furthermore, those who use their position of power, such as actors, to spread awareness and promote the caretaking of the planet’s precious resources also influence his creative process.
To fully capture the beauty of the natural world and the naked human body, Arterium employs an intuitive approach and welcomes co-creative exploration in his work. Shadow and light play an important role in his images as they allow for the model’s soul to come through. In addition, he uses natural light rather than lighting equipment, to highlight unfiltered characteristics of nature’s influence on the body. His preferred equipment to use is a Canon 5D Mark III, 24-70mkII f2.8.
Aside from photography, Arterium creative involvement includes music, film-making, interior design, painting, and other various artistic endeavors. His musical collaborations include working with artists such as American singer-songwriters John Legend and Ben Harper, the legendary Grace Jones, the King of the Blues B.B. King, Australian rock band The Cat Empire, Australian singer Xavier Rudd, and various other musicians.
Serving his community with his creative endeavors is Arterium’s biggest accomplishment throughout the course of his career. Taking a cue from the many activists that inspire him, he hopes to create a theatre production that focuses on protecting water. Furthermore, he anticipates publishing his photographs in a book, exhibiting in New York City, and releasing at least one feature film. In the years to come, some of his aspirations include becoming a teacher and an inspiration for emerging and young artists. Additionally, he strives to become recognized for the images that he creates, for his craft imbued with the exquisiteness of the human body, the elegance of the female form.
Arterium continues to create art imbued with his passion for the beauty found in nature and hopes to make a difference in the world with his photographs.
